Kite day: from a pile of sticks to an owl in the sky

By Ela Tribe

Some days out are about the music. This one was about the wind.

Building it

It started as a pile of bamboo, string and fabric on the sand. Everyone had a job: holding, tying, painting the eyes.

The launch

Getting a kite that size off the ground takes a team and a good gust. It took a few tries, and a lot of running.

The owl

Once it caught the wind, the owl just hung there over the water, watching us.

After dark

We lit it up as the sun went down, and it stayed in the sky long after.

Then we went dancing. More on that in the next post.
